War veteran.

Born at Austin on 26 September 1923, one of six children born to farmers Lorne Daniel Campbell and Mary Elizabeth Collier, he graduated grade 10 from Austin School in 1940 and was working as a clerk with Manitoba Pool Elevators in Winnipeg when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on 3 December 1942.

He qualified as an air gunner and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on 26 November 1943. He proceeded overseas on 20 January 1944, and was posted to 199 Squadron at RAF Station North Creake, England, on 27 July 1944. He was promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant on 26 August 1944, and, on 14 September 1944, he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer.

On 16 September 1944, Stirling aircraft LJ536 took off with 11 other aircraft from RAF Station North Creake on a special night operation to drop supplies and agents in occupied Europe. It failed to return. He and the seven other members of the crew, including Pilot Officer Murray Kesselman from Winnipeg, were also killed. They have no known graves. Despite several post-war inquiries by the Missing Research and Evaluation Service, his fate was never determined.

He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial in Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey, England. In 1986, the Province of Manitoba named Campbell Peninsula in Maria Lake in his honour.
