William Alexander Cameron
|
Farmer, businessman.
Born at Woodbridge, Ontario on 20 November 1877, son of Donald Cameron (c1842-?) and Ann T. Cameron (c1851-?), he came to Manitoba with his family in 1882 and settled on a farm in the Hayfield district. After leaving home, he bought grain at the Hayfield elevator before moving to Brandon where he began selling International Harvester agricultural implements in partnership with W. Rathwell.
On 17 June 1929, he married Ada Elizabeth Hortin (1903-1992) at Brandon and they had a daughter, Marjorie Cameron (?-?). He was a long-time director for the Manitoba Exhibition (President, 1941-1942) and was a member of the Rotary Club, First Presbyterian Church, and Wheat City Curling Club (President).
He died at his Brandon home, 411 Twelfth Street, on 12 February 1955 and was buried in the Brandon Cemetery.
