Memorable Manitobans: Christopher Murray Burt (1933-2024)

Journalist.

Born at Dunedin, New Zealand on 24 November 1933, son of Melville Ross Burt and Mercia Arnett, he moved to London, England to pursue a career in journalism, later relocating successively to the Moose Jaw Times-Herald, St. Catharines Standard, and Toronto Globe and Mail. He came to Winnipeg as Managing Editor of the Winnipeg Free Press (1979-1990). He retired to Kenora, Ontario but continued writing, including the book Winnipeg’s Ladies From Hell (2010) about the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. He died at Winnipeg on 11 May 2024.
