Memorable Manitobans: John Bryce (1852-1884)Building contractor. Born in Scotland in 1852, he came to Emerson and worked as a builder, and also operated a brickyard. He and wife Margaret Purdie (1852-?, later married to Duncan McArthur) had two daughters: Jean Marion Bryce (1879-1937, wife of Leonard Howe Ashby) and Margaret Bryce (1881-?, wife of William Hershfield). He died at Emerson on 17 June 1884 and was buried in the Emerson Cemetery. See also:
