Memorable Manitobans: Gary Thomas Brazzell (c1934-2012)Lawyer. Born near Moline around 1934, son of Frederick Louis Brazzell (1905-1991) and Anne McLaughlin (?-?), he attended Brandon College and, in the fall of 1953, enrolled in the Manitoba Law School. He articled with Johnston, Garson, Forrester, Davidson and Taylor and upon graduation joined the firm James Richardson and Sons. Called to the Manitoba Bar in June 1960, he practiced with the firms Thompson Dorfman Sweatman, Taylor Brazzell McCaffrey, and Tupper & Adams. He became a sole practitioner in 2003. He served on the boards of Moffat Communications Limited, National Grain Company Limited, Ladco Company Limited, Winnipeg Sun Limited, VIA Rail Canada, Videon Cable Systems Inc., and Monarch Industries Limited. He was legal counsel for the North Portage Development Corporation from 1985 to 1991. He was a long-term member of the International Bar Association and served as honorary counsel for Mexico in Winnipeg. He was made a Queen’s Counsel in 1978. He died at Winnipeg on 26 February 2012.
