Priest, community activist.
Born at St. Boniface in 1927, son of Albert Bouvier and Diane Huberdeau, he was ordained a Catholic priest in 1952 by Archbishop Cabana and began his ministry at Holy Cross Catholic Church. In 1953, he was loaned to the Saskatoon Diocese where he ministered at Vonda and St. Denis parishes. He returned to Manitoba as Director of Catholic Action of the Archdiocese of St. Boniface. In 1960, he became the parish priest at St. Emile in St. Vital where he established the St. Emile Catholic School.
To address what he perceived as an injustice that students at private school were not entitled for schoolbooks or rides on schoolbuses, he encouraged six families and 21 students to strike for 3½ months. Their action led to passage of the Shared Services Act by the Manitoba Legislature. He moved to California where he was priest at St. Bonaventure Church at Huntington Beach (1989-2009).
He returned to Winnipeg and died on 12 January 2011. He was buried in the St. Boniface Cathedral Cemetery.
