Community activist.
Born at St. Jean Baptiste on 30 September 1927, daughter of Lydia Labelle and Etienne Bissonnette, she received a BA degree from the University of Manitoba. Her diverse working life included being one of the first female announcers on Francophone radio with her program “Le Club des Jeunes” on station CKSB (circa 1950). She was a staffing consultant in the federal civil service, a customs officer at Emerson, and assistant principal and teacher at Morris, and executive assistant to Lieutenant Governor Pearl McGonigal.
An advocate for Franco-Manitobans culture and history, she played an important role in preserving the Gabrielle Roy House. In 1977, she wrote a play “Une Gabuerre très Politique”, and she was a journalist with the Emerson Journal and Carillon News.
She died unmarried at the Concordia Hospital on 6 December 2024 and was buried in the St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery.
