Memorable Manitobans: Lilian Ethel Brewer Bird (1920-2011)

Community activist.

Born at Glyne Gap, Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, England on 28 June 1920, she married Canadian serviceman Malcolm Thomas “Mac” Bird (?-1996) on 6 October 1945 and returned with him to Canada. In 1982, along with other English war brides, she founded the Manitoba War Brides Association. She died at Portage la Prairie on 16 June 2011 and was buried in the Portage Hillside Cemetery.
