Marine biologist.
Born on 19 February 1956, he spent 24 years working for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Winnipeg, in later years as Director for the Centre of Expertise for Arctic Aquatic Research Excellence. He was finally the head of Canada's Polar Continental Shelf Program. He died in a plane crash near Resolute Bay, Nunavut on 20 August 2011. He is commemorated by the research ship RV Martin Bergmann.
