Métis leader.
Born at St. Boniface on 3 November 1838, son of Benjamin Beauchemin (c1804-1870) and Marie Parenteau (c1815-?), nephew of Andre Beauchemin, around 1859 he married Marguerite McMillan (1839-1926) at the Red River Settlement and they settled in the Charleswood area. They had four children: William “Bill” Beauchemin (1859-1946), Patrice Beauchemin (1871-1941), Fred Beauchemin (?-?), and Virginie Beauchemin (?-?, wife of A. Hogue). In 1869, he was a member of the December Convention, and subsequently was a French representative of St. Charles in the Convention of Forty formed by Louis Riel’s Provisional Government in January 1870. He died at St. Charles on 2 December 1900 and was buried in the St. Charles Roman Catholic Cemetery. He and his family is commemorated by Beauchemin Park in Winnipeg.
