Memorable Manitobans: Allan Victor Arnott (1924-2011)Farmer. Born on the family farm near Darlingford on 6 April 1924, son of Russell and Mabel Arnott, during the Second World War he served as a pilot and flight instructor in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Returning from military duty, he farmed and was active in developing and promoting pedigreed seed via the Canadian Seed Growers Association. He spent two years in Nigeria working with the Canadian International Development Agency to set up a large-scale mechanized farm. His commitment to innovative agricultural practices took up to China, Australia, United States, and Africa. In recognition of his service, he was inducted into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame (2009). He died on 13 February 2011. Sources:Obituary, Winnipeg Free Press, 16 February 2011.
