Memorable Manitobans: Lorna Rose Anne Gudmundson Anderson (1931-2017)

Community activist.

Born on 4 December 1931, she married Reginald Dennis “Reg” Anderson (?-2015) in 1957. As a young woman at Eriksdale, she worked as a telephone operator and eventually moved to the Eriksdale Post Office where she worked until retirement. She was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. When diagnosed with cancer, she worked hard to beat the disease. When diagnosed a second time, she wanted to do something to help others. Her proudest achievement was completing the Walk For Life where she walked from Thunder Bay, Ontario to Eriksdale, a distance of 848 kilometres, to raise money and awareness to fight cancer. She died at Winnipeg on 9 May 2017 and was interred in the Eriksdale Cemetery.
