Memorable Manitobans: John Allen (c1878-1971)

Lawyer, civil servant.

Born near Napanee, Ontario around 1878, he graduated with an MA degree in Mathematics from Queen's University (1904). He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1909 and, for three years, had a private law practice. In 1913, he was appointed Deputy Attorney-General of Manitoba and served under ten Attorneys-General until retirement. He was made a Queen's Counsel (?). On 2 August 1921, he married Clara Mabel Robinson (1880-1956) at Winnipeg. They had no children. He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 30 May 1971 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
