Memorable Manitobans: George Ylonen (1931-2014)Farmer, municipal official. Born on 30 January 1931, son of Finnish immigrants Aili and Emil Ylonen, he farmed on land homesteaded by his grandfather in 1908. He served as a municipal counselor and Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet, and a board member for the library, sports arena, and health clinic. He founded the Concerned Citizens of Manitoba, a group challenging the disposal of nuclear waste in the Canadian Shield. He died on 16 August 2014.
