Born in Maganty County, Quebec, he moved to Grey County, Ontario and from there moved to Manitoba in June 1871. He was married twice, first to Elizabeth Donelly (?-1873) and second to Maria Barron (?-1918). He had three sons and eight daughters. He was involved in the 1870 Riel Rebellion. He served as a Reeve for the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie from 1896 to 1897. He died at High Bluff on 11 July 1925.
