Memorable Manitobans: WapinesiwCree “leading Indian.” First noted by Anthony Henday in 1755, he commanded 20 canoes and was lured to York Factory, which he visited regularly for 15 years. The number of his canoes grew from 20 to 30. After 1770 he worked for the Canadian fur traders from Montreal. More information:
