Memorable Manitobans: William George “Bill” Waldie (1914-2006)Community activist. He was a coach, organizer, and groundskeeper for minor league baseball in Cartwright for 25 years. He was the community’s Fire Chief for 19 years and took care of the hall and equipment on his own time. He was a town councillor for 16 years. In 1974, he was given a good citizenship award by Lieutenant-Governor W. J. McKeag. He died in 2006.
