Memorable Manitobans: Alfred Edwin Stevens (1864-1948)

Railway executive.

Born in New Brunswick on 4 May 1864, he was General Supervisor of the Manitoba district of the Canadian Pacific Railway. He was married twice, first to Rose Anna McKay (?-?) with whom he had four sons: Alexander McKay Stevens (1898-?), Edwin Merritt Stevens (1900-?), Alfred McLaren “Clare” Stevens (1902-1976, father of Rosemary Malaher), and Walter Oscar Stevens (1904-?). He was later married to Mary Frances Stirrett (1887-1955). He died at Toronto, Ontario on 10 December 1948 and was buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
