Memorable Manitobans: James Archibald Shearer (1887-?)
Born at Peterborough, Ontario on 11 December 1887, son of John Shearer (c1863-1910) and Nora Jane McGloughlin (1862-1940), the family came to Manitoba in 1901 and lived at Portage la Prairie until 1911 when they moved to Winnipeg. He later moved to Neepawa where he was the the District Registrar at the Neepawa Land Titles Office from 1919 to the 1940s. On 24 July 1920, he married Minnie Isabel Poole (c1889-1951) at Winnipeg. Active in the community, he served for 34 years on the Neepawa Parks Board and was President of the Neepawa and District Cancer Society (1967). In recognition of his service, in 1963 he was given a Golden Boy Award. His whereabouts after December 1970 are as yet unknown.
