Memorable Manitobans: James Thomson Prosser (1886-1958)

Grain merchant.

Born at Lanark, Scotland in 1886, he came to Canada in 1911 and was employed by the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society. He was its manager from 1948 until retirement in 1951. He and wife Barbara Georgina McFarlane (1888-1961) lived at 310 Brock Street. They had no children. He was an active member of the Home Street United Church, serving as an elder and Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Assiniboine Lawn Bowling Club and River Heights Community Club. He was a keen gardener. He died at Orlando, Florida on 20 July 1958 and was buried in the Woodlawn Memorial Park, at Gotha, Florida.
