Memorable Manitobans: Mark Porteous (1952-1996)Dance administrator. Born in Montreal on 1 June 1952, one of ten children born to John Geoffrey Porteous and Millicent Asselman, he studied arts administration at Ryerson Polytechnic and worked for various theatre groups before joining the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as tour manager in 1978. He was noted for his efficiency and his patience. He became co-general manager of the RWB in 1992, but retired to Vancouver a year later. He died of AIDS in Vancouver, on 18 October 1996.
