Memorable Manitobans: Thomas-Ferruce Picard Destroismaisons (1796-1866)Cleric. Born in Lower Canada, he was educated at the Séminaire de Quebec and the Collège de Nicolet, and was ordained in 1819. He was selected in 1820 to be a missionary in Red River, but was not very successful. Despite goodwill, he proved incapable of learning Native languages and returned east in 1827, where he had a long if ineffectual career in the priesthood.
