Memorable Manitobans: Douglas A. “Doug” Palson (1964-2025)

Police officer.

Born on 23 January 1964, son of Inga Palson and Roderick Hokanson, he was raised at Arborg. He became an officer with the Brandon Police Service in 1988 where he was a member of the senior leadership team. He was then Chief of the Dakota Ojibway Police Service (7 years) and Dryden Police Service (7 service). In November 2021, he became Chief of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service. He was a member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, President of the First Nations Chiefs of Police Association, and member of the Manitoba Association of Chiefs of Police. In recognition of his service, he received a Manitoba Excellence in Law Enforcement Award and a Governor General's Officer of the Order of Merit (2016). He died at his home near High Bluff on 8 January 2025.
