Memorable Manitobans: Stanley Adaljon Oleson (1931-2018)

Municipal official, curler, community activist.

Born at Glenboro on 10 November 1931, son of Kristjan and Margret Oleson, he attended Glenboro School after which he taught school for a short time. He was Secretary-Treasurer for the Tiger Hills School Division for many years and was a founding member of the Manitoba Association of School Business Officials. He served as a councilor and Mayor of Glenboro (1969-1973). In 1953, he married Charlotte Louise Kingdon and had three sons. Active in curling, he was a director of the Manitoba Curling Association for 22 years and was President of the Canadian Curling Association (1992-1993). He received numerous awards in connection with his work in curling administration: Honorary Life Member of the Manitoba Curling Association (1968), Honorary Life Member of the Glenboro Curling Club (1982), inductee to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame (1991), Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Curling Association (1994), inductee to the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame (1995), and Honorary Life Member of the Pembina Curling Club (1997). He was a founding member of the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame (1996) and was inducted to it as a builder in 2001. He died at Glenboro on 23 December 2018 and was buried in the Glenboro Cemetery.
