Born at Emerson on 4 September 1888, daughter of Catherine Ann Kelly (1857-1932) and John Alexander Carmichael (1851-1930), she received her early schooling in Swan River and attended the Manitoba College of Pharmacy where she graduated with a degree in pharmacy in 1912. She was one of the first female pharmacists in Manitoba. She apprenticed in Dauphin before opening her own drug store. She spent over 50 years in pharmacy including 20 years as chief pharmacist at the Misericordia Hospital. She retired in 1963.
On 3 June 1913, she married Joseph Thomas Mooney (1877-1954) at Swan River and they had three sons: John MacNeill Mooney (1914-?), Joseph Lawrence “Lorne” Mooney (1916-1971), and Wilfred Thomas Mooney (1920-1987). At the time of her death, she lived in the Maple Leaf Apartments.
She died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 17 October 1978 and was buried in the Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery.
