Farmer, municipal official.
Born at Guelph, Ontario on 22 January 1863, he came to Manitoba in 1882 and settled on a farm near the village of Arrow River. On 14 November 1897, he married Anna Olivia Lynch (1872-1954) and they had four daughters: Jessie Merle Mitchell (1899-1990, wife of Charles Archibald Hill), Vera Thompson Mitchell (1900-1994, wife of ? Gladstone), Mildred Grace Mitchell (1902-?, wife of James Clyma Stephens), and Anna Ruth Mitchell (1904-?, wife of George Frederick Cowan). He was a member of the Arrow River United Church and Masons (Lebanon Lodge and Miniota Lodge). Active in the community, he served as Reeve of the RM of Miniota (1914-1927) and President of the Union of Manitoba Municipalities (1925-1926). Around 1927, ill health forced him to retire and he moved into Miniota where he resided until his death. He died at Miniota on 29 September 1930 and was buried in the Arrow River Cemetery.
