Memorable Manitobans: Robert Seaborn Miles (1795-1870)Fur trader. Born in Oxfordshire, he joined the Hudson's Bay Company in 1818 as an accountant. He served at York Factory from 1821 to 23 and from 1824 to 34, and then as head of the Rupert’s Land District until 1843. He became a chief trader in 1828 and a chief factor in 1844.
