Grain broker.
Born at Millbrook, Ontario on 4 August 1879, son of Archibald McBean and Sarah Dawson (1837-1921), he came to Manitoba and worked in the grain industry with his family firm, A. McBean and Sons, and later as a grain broker in partnership with his brother Bruce McBean with Bruce McBean and Company. In 1917, he co-founded with his brother-in-law Roland McNutt Macleod a mail order farm supply business that became Macleods Limited.
On 1 June 1904, he married Luelle Woonona Macleod (1885-1955, daughter of William Wallace Macleod) at Winnipeg. They had three sons: George McBean (1906-1926), Philip Wallace McBean (1907-1950), and Athol Oscar McBean (1911-1969, husband of Mary Maxwell Dennistoun, son-in-law of Robert Maxwell Dennistoun). The family lived at 97 Yale Avenue.
He died at Victoria, British Columbia on 27 November 1961 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
