Memorable Manitobans: Jean Baptiste, le Moyne de Martigny et de La Trinité (1662-1709)Soldier. He spent most of the period from 1686 to 1709 as a French officer in Hudson Bay, first commanding an overland expedition to James Bay in 1686 which left Montreal on 30 March and arrived on 18 June. The detachment captured four Hudson's Bay Company posts. Two years later he carried dispatches from James Bay to Quebec over the winter. He was part of Iberville’s successful expedition of 1694 and served as commandant of Fort Bourbon in 1698. He was part of another invading party to James Bay in 1709. More information:
