Memorable Manitobans: Michael John Makowski (1924-2002)Educator. Born at Gilbert Plains on 20 October 1924, son of Jacob and Anna Makowski, over a 47-year period he was a teacher in several rural Manitoba schools, including service as the Principal of Griswold School (1952-1954), Newdale School (1954-1959), and Stony Mountain School (1959-1961). He was active in coaching sports teams. He died at Stonewall on 6 October 2002 and was buried in the Stonewall Cemetery.
