Memorable Manitobans: Richard Benjamin “Dick” MacDonald (1936-2007)

Farmer, conservationist.

He began working for the Delta Waterfowl Foundation in 1994, assisting with its conservation efforts in southwestern Manitoba. Working with local farmers, he helped to instil a conservation ethic in the local farming community. He supervised the operations of the Minnedosa Field Station east of Minnedosa, being a surrogate father to generations of students who would become the next generation of wildlife biologists. He died at Minnedosa on 10 July 2007 and was buried in the Minnedosa Cemetery. He is commemorated by a monument at the Minnedosa Field Station.
