Memorable Manitobans: Peter Edward Lewis (1919-2012)

Educator.

Born Peter Lewiski at Gilbert Plains on 22 May 1919, he spent over 35 years as a teacher, Vice-Principal, and Principal, including service as the Principal of Jameswood School (1965-1966) and Golden Gate School (1966-1976). During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He and wife Aleksandra “Alice” Kobylanski (c1925-1980) had a daughter and a son. He died at the Concordia Hospital on 9 March 2012 and was buried in the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
