Railwayman.
In 1908, he was a Purchasing Agent for the Canadian Northern Railway at Winnipeg. He was promoted to Chief Purchasing Agent in 1917. With its amalgamation to become the Canadian National Railway, he continued as Purchasing Agent, based at Toronto, Ontario.
