Memorable Manitobans: John Russell Khadekin (1930-1983)Educator. Born on a farm near Pelly, Saskatchewan on 11 June 1930, son of John Khadekin (?-1974) and Mary Khadekin (?-1978), he attended Lister School until the eighth grade then took his high education at Pelly, graduating in June 1947 at the age of 16. He then received a teaching certificate then taught at Lister School, Pines School, and in Brandon. He entered the University of Saskatchewan in 1949 and graduated with a BEd degree in 1952. He later completed a MEd degree at the University of Toronto. He taught high school at Veregin, Saskatchewan for three years then served as the Principal of Benito School (1955-1969). He was the Assiniboine Superintendent of the Swan Valley School Division (1969-1981) until moving to the new position of Principal at Arran, Saskatchewan in 1981. He and his wife Mary had three children. While living in Benito, he was a member of the Benito Chamber of Commerce and the Benito town council. He died at Regina, Saskatchewan on 6 April 1983.
