Memorable Manitobans: Ivan Kaufmann (1920-2006)

Dairy specialist.

Trained as a dairy specialist, he took those skills to Sweden during the Second World War, to Denmark after the war and then to Canada. He was Plant Superintendent for Gardenland Creamery in Winkler, Manager of Souris Creamery, Manager for Silverwoods in Thompson and then Plant Superintendent for Silverwood Dairies in Winnipeg. He then volunteered for the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO), a volunteer branch of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) for 15 years in Central and South America, Sri Lanka and Latvia where he completed over 50 projects to aid the dairy industry to bring their standards and production up to international levels. He received the Canada 125 medal for his volunteer work with the CESO. He died on 23 November 2006.
