Memorable Manitobans: Annie B. Juniper (?-1933)

Home economist.

Believed to have been born in England, she was the first Head of the School of Household Science at Macdonald College (an affiliate of McGill University in Montreal) and held a similar position in New Brunswick before she came to Manitoba in 1910. She was put in charge of Household Science at the Manitoba Agricultural College and, in November and December 1910, she and Margaret Kennedy traveled around rural Manitoba to encourage women to form groups for mutual aid. This initiative developed into the Women's Institutes. In the summers of 1910 and 1911, she offered summer courses in home economics.

After leaving Manitoba, she went to British Columbia to organize the teaching of domestic science there. She later went to England where she established the Yorkshire Training College of Housecraft.

She died at London, England on 20 December 1933.
