Memorable Manitobans: David Louis “Lumpy” Johnson (c1947-2007)

Realtor, community activist.

Born in 1947 to Sigurveig Gudron “Veiga” Oleson (1917-1986) and Halldor Lewis Sigurdur “Lou” Johnson (1903-?), he developed an avid interest in automobiles and motorcycles and went on to become an activist dedicated to motorcyclists’ rights in Manitoba. He started the Ride for Sight, the Motorcycle Toy Run, and the Motorcycle Blood Donor Clinic. He was actively involved in all aspects of automobile and motorcycle hobbies over the years, and besides enjoying those activities, valued his relationships with the people he got to know in clubs and associations of which he was a part. Upon marrying Fran Schoen, he became the stepfather of two children. For the last 27 years of his life, he was a realtor. He died at the Grace Hospital on 29 January 2007.
