Memorable Manitobans: Hazel Alma Mae Lund Hutton (1899-1979)

Educator.

Born at Elkhorn on 30 May 1899, daughter of Helen Mabel “Nellie” Simpson (1877-1966) and Edgar Ranforth Lund (1876-1917), she accompanied the family in their move to Oak Lake by 1911 where she attended Oakwood School. On 3 April 1919, she married Howard James Hutton (1899-1979) at Brandon and they had two daughters: Helen Doreen Hutton (1919-1983, wife of William Davidson) and Gloria Maxine Hutton (1921-2014). They resided at Oak Lake into the latter 1920s.

She became an educator in the 1920s; her career including teaching at Riverdale School (1929-1930), Green Bay School (1930-1932, Principal), Golden Bay School (1932-1937, Principal), Beausejour School (1939-1943, 1946), Dominion City School (1946-1947), Ninette School (?-?), and Rivers School / Rivers Elementary School (1952-1965). She retired in September 1965 and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia.

She died at the Vancouver General Hospital on 7 January 1979, with burial locally at Mountain View Cemetery.
