Memorable Manitobans: Robert Milton Hopper (1895-1979)

Born at Newdale on 10 May 1895, son of John Hopper and Margaret Lowery Reid, he joined the federal government in August 1921 and was Assistant Superintendent (?-?) and Superintendent (1946-1960) of the Brandon Experimental Farm prior to retirement to British Columbia. He served as President of the Brandon Winter Fair (1946-1949) and a member and Vice-President (1957) of the Provincial Exhibition. He served on the executive for Manitoba horse, swine, and cattle breeder groups, was President of the Canadian Club of Brandon and a board member of the Wheat City Arena. He was married twice, first on 28 December 1921 to Daisy May Cuthbert (?-?) at Winnipeg. He later married Nancy Mary Nixon (1903-1992). He died at New Westminster, British Columbia on 5 August 1979 and was buried there.
