Farmer, community activist.
Born on the family farm in the RM of Winchester on 7 August 1943, son of Baden-Powell Warren Hathaway (1900-1980) and Bethea Shanks Johnstone (1918-2011), he attended Coxworth School and Deloraine School. He worked on the family farm, raising cattle and pigs, growing grain, and dairying. In 1979, he took over the farm from his father and served as President of the Manitoba Ayrshire Association. Following retirement in 1994, he was President of the Arthur Virden NDP Association, raised cashmere goats, and served on the Manitoba Veterinary Services Commission (2005). He had a long-standing interest in the history of western Manitoba and was active in the Turtle Mountain Souris Plains Heritage Association. He died at Souris on 13 August 2015, survived by Barbara Carlson, and was buried in the Waskada Cemetery.
