Elmer John Greenslade

Cattle breeder, municipal official.
Born at Portage la Prairie on 16 November 1916, son of Charles Greenslade (1886-1967) and Ethel Goodale (1893-1966), he farmed near Portage and bred Aberdeen Angus cattle. Active in the community, he was a 4-H Club leader for 12 years, trustee and Secretary-Treasurer for the Nairn School District (17 years), Secretary-Manager of the Portage la Prairie Industrial Exhibition, President of the Manitoba Aberdeen Angus Association, and a director of the Manitoba Cattle Breeders' Association. He was the Mayor of Portage la Prairie (1980-1986) and President of the Manitoba Association of Urban Municipalities (1982-1983). He was named Mr. Manitoba Farmer (1966) at the Red River Exhibition. He died at Portage la Prairie on 14 May 1992 and was buried in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
