Memorable Manitobans: William J. Emerson (1913-1970)


Born in Winnipeg, he began gardening at an early age, working in a number of places before joining the Province of Manitoba, on loan to the lieutenant-governor as gardener and florist at Government House. He worked there from 1947 until his retirement in 1979. He was active in scouting and was a member and officer of the St. John Ambulance Society for 38 years. He was awarded the Manitoba Horticultural Association Meritorious Service Award in 1976. He died in Kingston, Ontario.
