Memorable Manitobans: Stefan Einarsson (1881-1969)

Editor.

Born in Icelandic in 1881, he came to Canada in 1904 with a group of Icelandic immigrants and settled at Gimli. In 1917, he became the editor of the newspaper Heimskringla, remaining in the position until retirement in 1957. He was given an honorary knighthood (1945) by the government of Iceland in recognition of his efforts on behalf of Icelandic Canadians. He died at Gimli on 18 November 1969.
