Memorable Manitobans: Earl Ira Cummings (c1896-1960)

Optometrist.

Born at Norwood, Ontario, he moved to Winnipeg in 1920 where he worked in the optical department of the Hudson’s Bay Company for 25 years, rising to the position of manager. He served as President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Manitoba Association of Optometrists. During the First World War, he served as a flying officer in the Royal Flying Corps.

He died at his home at 433 Waverley Street, Winnipeg on 22 July 1960 and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery.
