Memorable Manitobans: Douglas James “Doug” Connery (1955-2011)

Horticulturist.

Born on 20 April 1955, son of Edward James “Ed” Connery and Beverley Sager (1934-2019), he was raised at Portage la Prairie and attended Arthur Meighen High School. He worked on the family farm and eventually ran the business operations of Connery Riverdale Farms. He served as a director of Peak of the Market, President of the Vegetable Growers Association of Manitoba, and President of the Canadian Horticultural Council. He was named Manitoba's Young Farmer of the Year in 1990. He died at Portage la Prairie on 15 December 2011.
