Memorable Manitobans: Samuel Robert Francis “Bob” Cain (1911-2006)

Bottle collector.

Born in the Treherne district on 26 August 1911, he worked on his family farm and did local construction before starting work as one of the original employees of the Treherne Co-op, on 2 March 1950. He delivered fuel and earned the nickname “Gas Bob.” On 27 April 1932, he married Dora Howe. He was well-known in the community for his hobby of collecting glass bottles. He built a glass house, church, wishing well, and outhouse that attracted tour groups to the town. He died on 6 September 2006.
