Memorable Manitobans: Kari Byron (1892-1973)

Farmer, municipal official.

Born at Akureyri, Iceland on 25 March 1892, he emigrated to Canada and farmed in the vicinity of Lundar. He served as Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Coldwell for over 37 years. He was President of the Icelandic National League and a members of the Masons. He organized the construction of the Lundar Senior Citizens’ Home, Lundar Memorial Rink, and was one of the founders of the Lundar Agricultural Society. He was made a life member of the Union of Manitoba Municipalities. He died at Eriksdale on 3 May 1973 and was buried in the Lundar Cemetery.
