Memorable Manitobans: Norma Ingimundson Busby (1930-2008)Nurse. Born at Lundar on 25 February 1930, daughter of Lawrence Ingimundson and Jakobina Breckman, she trained to be a nurse then worked at Whitehorse, Edmonton and Winnipeg with the federal government working in Aboriginal and Northern Health and in Occupational Health. In 1978, she led a national federal nurses’ strike resulting in salary increases and other benefits for nurses. In the 1980s, she was instrumental in developing national guidelines for occupational health nursing certification and she initiated the Nurses-at-Risk program, the first of its kind in Canada. In 1992 she was awarded the Confederation Medal. She died on 8 April 2008.
