Memorable Manitobans: Madeline Buck (1927-2006)

Pioneer.

Born at Vonda, Saskatchewan on 13 March 1927, as a teenager she moved to Sherridon to work as a cook for Sherrit Gordon Mines. She also met her husband Dick there and married on 26 June 1946. They and their children were the first family to live in the town of Lynn Lake in the spring of 1947, when Dick moved there to work for Northern Drill Camp. She operated home businesses including catering for the Lynn Lake Curling Club canteen, serving as a sales representative for GNC Health products, Regal, Tupperware and Avon. She was a lifetime member of the Lynn Lake Legion Auxiliary. In 1975, they moved to new town of Leaf Rapids and, in 1991, they settled in Dauphin. She died on 13 September 2006.
