Memorable Manitobans: August Basker (1828-1912)Miller, farmer. Born in Breslau, Germany, Basker immigrated to Canada in 1861 and then to Portage la Prairie in 1873 as a miller. He was a pioneer farmer at Rapid City in 1875, one of the first German-born agriculturalists in the province.
